Sage Tidbit #10: The Cs & As of Leadership Teams
A tidbit is a small morsel…. of inspiration, insights, or lessons learned/tips to reflect on, and digest, over your week.
Here are the 2 Cs: Clarity and Commitment; here are the 2 As: Agreement and Alignment.
I work with senior leadership teams and find that, in order for them to be performing at their best, they need to effectively address these four areas. When the team is not performing as it should, it has a ripple effect on the rest of the organization:
The team is not clear on the strategy or the roadmap required to execute on the strategy or how they need to coordinate and align across the organization. They might not agree on the course action. It’s important to distinguish between what is really required – agreement (everyone 100% agrees to a decision or action) or alignment (they don’t all agree but can get behind the decision because they understand it and feel their point of view has been heard). It is only then, can you expect to have their commitment to lead and speak to the decision or course of action with one, aligned voice.
Reflection Questions:
How do you create more clarity on your team?
Where do you need the team to land – being in 100% agreement or aligned on your course of action?
How can you be committed to the course of action and speak in a unified voice to the organization?
