Sage Tidbit #16: Metrics That Matter
A tidbit is a small morsel…. of inspiration, insights, or lessons learned/tips to reflect on, and digest, over your week.
Belief + Action = Results - so Measuring Progress Matters!
Once you have clarified your goal and really believe it is possible, and see yourself achieving it, AND take consistent action aligned with your goal, THEN it’s about making sure you measure what will give you the information you need that helps you know you are making the progress you need to in order to achieve your goal.
Sometimes you can be making progress, but maybe it’s not fast enough. Sometimes it’s not the kind of progress, qualitatively, you need to be making. It really comes down to the what, how and when of it. WHAT kind of progress are you making? What IS the progress you are making? HOW are you making progress? Is it sustainable long enough to achieve the goal? Are you making progress in the TIMEFRAME you need to?
So, setting and, ongoingly, evaluating your progress against your metrics is critical, if you are to be really managing yourself and your team against your goals. WHAT really MATTERS? This may be common knowledge, but not always common practice.
Reflection Questions:
HOW are you measuring your progress?
Are you making the KIND of progress you need to, and in the TIMEFRAME you need to?
How do you know?
Is there anything you’d change in your process or your metrics - how you are evaluating your progress?
