Meet Founder Susan Q. Shaner, M.A., M.S.
For Susan Shaner, driving business growth is a calling — one she’s answered for more than 20 years by focusing on the very human aspects of the business environment. As such, Susan has developed individuals and aligned organizational capabilities for companies ranging from those in the Fortune 10 to one-person startups.
In 2006, she founded Sage Leadership Strategies, LLC to bring her perspective to a variety of clients: large growth companies that are seeking alternative ways to develop and manage key talent, small to mid-size companies looking to better leverage their resources, and entrepreneurs in need of a trusted advisor to help them sort through the challenges of wearing multiple hats and finding success in intensely competitive environments.
Companies in which Susan has worked as an internal leader include GE, IBM and Healthnet (formerly PHS) Corporations. Her background also includes being trained as a therapist using the creative arts; teaching school and developing self-help programs in the inner city of Kingston, Jamaica in the West Indies.
Much of Susan’s career has been in leading startup functions, which include tasks ranging from setting strategy to implementing detailed tactical plans. Susan brings creative thought leadership blended with pragmatic realism. She can always be relied on to be thoughtful, candid, responsive and timely.
If you want a creative point of view, a catalyst who brings insight and facilitates clearer and more meaningful dialogue amongst your team, Susan is your person. She has a knack for innovation, often repurposing and reconfiguring tools, processes and ideas for different objectives, applications and environments.
She has an uncanny ability to be in the clouds and think conceptually while, at the same time, keeping her feet and recommendations firmly on the ground.
Susan holds a Masters of Science degree in Human Resource Education from Fordham University, and a Masters of Arts degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors from Boston College. She is a member of the OD Network, National Association of Female Executives, and a former board member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).
