Sticking To It

Happy 2010 and happy new decade! You have probably set your goals and plans for the year. Now is the time to strike the balance between keeping your vision clear and front of mind and being flexible in how you execute on it based on what evolves and changes - with your customers, with your market and the economy. We are certainly living in dynamic times where the rules of engagement are constantly being rewritten. The analogy of steering a ship in a storm is a good one. Many are optimistic that the economy is improving. I don't know how much it actually is, and in a sustained way, or how much people would like it to. A new year often brings us to hope of starting anew. Hope is a great catalyst for action. And, I think we would be well served to entertain the possibility that there may still be other surprises in store for us.

Keep your sea legs strong so you can stay balanced and grounded in case the boat rocks some more. Keep your eye on your destination (vision) and the horizon (broader context) and you should be okay despite the ride. The theme for this month's newsletter is staying informed, flexible, recharged and powered by focused action amidst obstacles and challenges. These are keys to staying resilient in turbulent, uncertain times. I am including two of my recent interviews with entrepreneurs who started their businesses during the economic downturn and seem to be weathering the challenges with perserverance, creativity and smart financing.
